What is Ruth Miskin Literacy Training?
Ruth Miskin is one of the UK's leading authorities on teaching children to read. Over the last ten years all her time has been devoted to developing a programme called Read Write Inc. which is published by Oxford University Press. Ruth Miskin Literacy delivers comprehensive training for schools in how to use Read Write Inc. programmes effectively for whole school improvement.
Read Write Inc. programmes are based on the premise that children learn most effectively when excellent modelling, followed by partner discussion and teaching, is deeply embedded into every lesson.
Read Write Inc. teachers use ‘big’ teaching strategies – lively, expansive modelling followed by explicit partner teaching and discussion.
Ruth’s training programme, alongside the excellent resources, provides schools with a cohesive and structured approach to the teaching of phonics and literacy. Once trained, both teachers and teaching assistants will have the enthusiasm and knowledge to teach Read Write Inc. effectively. The support days give schools further training in implementing the programme to the highest standards.
